hello cool people,

i had an update video ready to go regarding this, but my hard drive failed on me yesterday…  so i shall do this text post for now. 

today, i am making my indie game, cool people club, free to play.  this is primarily because of unity’s runtime fee fiasco… i was stressing for a little while at the idea that if my game blew up, i’d be potentially subject to whatever made-up fees unity’s legal team decided acceptable, retroactively, in perpetuity, to be raised or lowered at their discretion.  they didn’t even care if a game was pirated or not they were still gonna charge you based on that.  real nasty stuff.

even though they’ve walked back a bunch of these changes due to the backlash, and even though their TOS explicitly stated that the terms you adhered to was based off the version of unity you were on, a company making predatory choices like that just isnt worth the hassle for me.  i could port the game, but i think my time and money would be far better spent on new projects.

so, by making my game free, anyone who wants to give the game a try can do so, and if unity makes any further bad choices in the future, they simply won’t affect me and my free game.  

for anybody who gave my game a shot, i just wanna say that i really appreciate you taking a chance on this game.  i worked really, really hard on it - so hard, in fact, that a little piece of my soul is inside it…  if you like the game and want to show your support, the best way is to purchase the soundtrack at coolturtle.bandcamp.com.

this decision is final.  also, any future games that i make will be made on a different game engine.  looking forward to not having to stress about something like this ever again.  🙂
